NO MEN ALLOWED!!

Today's post is strictly for the ladies. So, to the two men that read this (Hi Dad and John!), please step away from the computer before I die of embarrassment.

I have been wanting to write a post about this ever since I read it. I've been a teensy bit busy lately (ha!) and it slipped my mind. But just the other day I remembered and had to post on it! The IT I'm referring to is our lovely little monthly friend. Periods. Those of you who know me well know I don't usually discuss these kind of things. I embarrass WAY too easily over this stuff. So, I'm taking the easy way out! I'm sending you over to Laura's blog to read THIS post.

Go ahead. I'll wait.......

Crazy, huh?? The thing that freaked me out even more than the post was the comments section. Woman after woman said " So that's what's been going on!" or "That same thing happened to me!" Yikes. Was anyone else aware of this? I've been in the baby making business for the past 6 years or so. My "friend" and I parted ways for a while but we are about to reconnect here shortly. But, boy, have things changed! I have a few ideas about some healthier alternatives, which were discussed over at Laura's blog. (Again, taking the easy way out!)

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hmmm...I guess I'll see what happens. Lots of people swear by that Diva cup thing.

Interesting...I'd believe it. I used the Keeper Cup for a while before getting pregnant with Hannah and while it took some getting used to, I liked it well enough.

Creepy. I am scared of that diva cup Marie mentioned. I am scared of tampons! I think I'll try something new soon I don't want any weird chemicals in my system. Thanks for posting this.

The "chemical" she talked about is bleach. Bleach causes excess bleeding and slows healing. I started using cloth after the birth of my first son because I had torn badly. Paper HURT! So I took an old towel and birdseye burp cloth and made some really basic strips when he was less than 2 days old! AH relief! So before baby #2 I made some nice ones out of a flannel sheet and bath towels. These have served me well and even after 5 kids I still only go for about 5 days TOPS (that one time I have it before the next one starts baking). I got the Diva cup when my daughter was about 17 months because I KNEW I would need it soon. I never got to use it because I got pregnant before I started:) That was totally fine by me. I'll be totally happy if I don't have another one ever (in other words, I nurse untill pregnant all the way till mental pause um menopause:) Also I have almost no post partum bleeding ( I use cloth then too) You won't be diapointed if you make the switch:):)

That is a great point from Sewbusy, perhaps that is why I had trouble healing from my 3rd degree tears,,, the bleach from the pads...Next time I will use some homemade!

I definitely think I am the most prone to yelling and overreacting when I am trying to get stuff done (or am in a hurry to get somewhere on time).

Have I been living in a cave? I've never heard of the Diva Cup, or the fact that people use cloth reusable famine products. I don't think I could do either. Then again I am part of the lucky few who have what I would consider to be reasonably easy periods and Playtex tampons work fine for me. Shocking & educational news. Thanks. :)

Shocking, but I believe it. I started using cloth mama pads when I started using cloth diapers about 3 years ago. I recently started using the Keeper cup (and whoa does that make cleanup a little easier!) Definitely worth it though!

Um... totally! So interesting! I switched to the Diva Cup after Noah was born because... well... the other darned things wouldn't stay where they are supposed to! I LOVE the Diva Cup after the first couple months of getting used to it. And I use cloth now too, but hardly at all because you don't need to with the Cup. It seemed gross at first, but cloth diapers break you in to that whole world! I seriously doubt I'll ever go back.

I had never heard of a connection between chemicals (bleach) and longer periods, but I can definitely say mine have been shorter since switching. I always wondered why! Thanks Amanda!
