Your opinion?

So, my sweet little Luke is having a birthday in about two weeks. He's at that age now where he actually has opinions and a few months ago I was looking through a Family Fun magazine and he saw this:

My little boy has a slight obsession with anything mobile. Especially tractors. So when he saw this- it was love. "Mama, can I have that cake for my birthday?" I like to think I'm a pretty fun mom, willing to try lots of different things, but this seems...a bit overwhelming to me. I'd love to. Don't get me wrong. And if I had 2 less children and wasn't already feeling exhausted from pregnancy I'd totally do it. Well, now I'm not quite sure what to do. It would be fun to see his face light up if I made it. But another part of me just wants to go to the store and buy a Thomas the Tank Engine cake, which he also has an obsession with. Speaking of which, I'm not even sure how he found out who Thomas the Tank engine was. One day he just started talking about Thomas and pointing him out in stores. Weird. But...I digress. So, what are your opinions? Should I make him the cake? (We won't even talk about all the "bad stuff" involved in the ingredients) Or should I buy one? Help me out! Thanks!

What if you made a cake and then bought a back hoe or another tractor of some sort and set it on top of the cake? That way he can play with it not just eat it?? I know the feeling of 'all things' that go... Riley is very into bob the builder and 'Scoop' is the name of the backhoe and so little Luke might really like that instead of a tractor he can eat...

I say simplification is key at your stage of life! Do what is most "doable"...and know that in the long run, Luke would much rather have a so-so cake and an unfrenzied mom rather than the coolest cake and a frenzied mommy.
You do such a great job with your kiddos!

I say, if it would be FUN for you, go for it. If you would be a stressed mommy, do the other. He'll love that too!

That looks too hard. I'm with Edi and the toy on top of the cake idea. Oh, and it's his birthday. You're officially allowed to eat that "bad stuff" on birthdays. :)

P.S. Maybe you could have the raisin on the bottom of the feet game as a party game. :)

I like Edi's idea, too. You could sprinkle some chocolate cookie crumbs on top so that the buildermans can be pushing dirt around or something!

USE CAUTION TAPE AS A PARTY DECORATION! WOOO!
